Radiant Barrier Wrap

Another green feature of the Shade House Condos in Houston is the radiant barrier wrap the builders used underneath the exterior. Radiant heat is reflected away by the tin-foil looking material, officially named "radiant barrier wrap."

It's most effective when using two layers of the material, with firring strips between it and the foam, inside walls of homes.

I recently saw that LP released some very encouraging data on their TechShield radiant barrier. It can save upwards of 17% on energy costs and reduces carbon dioxide. They also have some interesting green tid bits on their website (www.lpcorp.com/techshield). I thought it was very cool that they are helping folks realize just how innovative and green building products can be! Additionally, for existing homes, LP is releasing a new foil product that can be installed in your attic space for the same type of benefits as their radiant barrier. Cool stuff for new builds and existing homes!
